Dow Jones' Efforts for Islamic Index
One of the prominent index establishments, Dow Jones Islamic Index, still cannot take a license from among 17 companies, who work according to Islamic rules on the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE).
The Administrative Manager of a Dow Jones participator in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, Stoxx, Lars Hamich said yesterday that they have not found a firm to take an Islamic index license since September 30th, 2004.
While noting that they have already had some talks within the last five months, Hamich said that they could not have any results from them; however, they are in contact with a bank now.
Hamich answered Zaman's questions at an advertising meeting prepared to start work for Turkey's first Stock Investment Fund, Dow Jones Istanbul 20, on the ISE.
Pointing out the positive performances of Turkish capital markets, Hamich noted the increase that will in foreign investment that will accompany Turkey's European Union (EU) bid.
Hamich also said that the Islamic index, they started to count last September, is an important tool to measure Islamic capital, because it plays a significant role in global capital movements.
There are 50 investment tools of Dow Jones suitable for Sheria presented to whole world markets and 25 of them have American and European licenses, especially those that are used for investment purposes. Hamich defines Western interest in those rare tools in Islamic countries as "interesting".
