Top experts in Islamic banking to attend forum
MANAMA: The stage is set for the 11th World Islamic Banking conference, which will take place in Bahrain from December 11 to 13.
Top international speakers will address the event, at the Gulf International Convention and Exhibition Centre, at the Gulf Hotel.
Two pre-conference workshops focusing on the WIBC McKinsey competitiveness report and Takaful will run concurrently on December 11.
The workshop titled The WIBC McKinsey Competitive-ness Report Executive Briefing will focus on profitability, efficiency and asset quality.
McKinsey & Company associate principal Nasr-Eddine Benaissa and Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance Islamic finance head Dr Taha Eltayeb Ahmed, will introduce the research project to participants.
The workshop on Takaful will explore the dynamics of the growth sector, including the General Takaful, Re-Takaful, and Family Takaful markets.
Bahrain-based Solidarity, one of Middle East's leading Takaful companies will be presenting the workshop.
The conference itself will begin on December 12, with the Governor's Table, a session on Regulation, Supervision & Innovation: Creating a Framework for Islamic Banking & Finance to Thrive.
Eight interactive sessions will take place all together, at which BBC Hard Talk presenter Tim Sebastian moderating.
"I am delighted to be moderating the conference and looking forward to stimulating discussions on economic and financial affairs at a crucial time for the region," he said.
Panellists for the opening session include Bahrain Monetary Agency(BMA) governor Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Qatar Central Bank governor Abdullah bin Khalid Al Attiyah, Central Bank of Iraq governor Dr Sinan Al Shabibi, Islamic Development Bank president Dr Ahmed Mohammed Ali, Bank of England adviser to the governor Alistair Clark, Monetary Authority of Singapore and deputy managing director John Palmer and Central Bank of Turkey board member Durmus Yilmaz.
In addition, speakers and panellists from Pricewaterhouse Coopers, McKinsey & Company, Goldman Sachs International, BMA, Dar Al-Maal Al-Islami, Shariah Funds Inc, Takaful International, First Leasing Bank, Noriba Bank, National Commercial Bank, Bahrain Financial Harbour, SAMBA Financial Group, Gulf Finance House, Kuwait Finance House, Shamil Bank, Ernst & Young, Misys Retail Banking and Norton Rose, will be addressing the delegates during the conference.
