The Model Islamic School is
implementing a model school program, now called the Nation
of Character Program, being proposed to the Malaysian
government (through the Ministry of Women and Family
Development and the Ministry of Education) for
implementation in schools throughout Malaysia. It includes a
very innovative method for raising children of excellent
character, known as the Khalifah Method, which is based on
modern psychological learning principles and powerful
techniques of social influence, combined with the
traditional beliefs and practices of our Islamic faith.
We think it is obvious the
world our children are presently growing up in is, in many
ways, not nearly good enough. We believe it is possible to
help bring about a much better world. We believe we can help
children grow into happy, well educated, well adjusted
adults, strong in their Islamic faith, successful in any
educational or business environment, and able to begin
making right many of the wrongs that exist in today’s
diverse world society.
No matter how good these
methods and goals may be they will not have much positive
effect on our students unless they are consistently and
successfully implemented in the classroom by dedicated
teachers such as yourself. It is for this reason that we ask
you to sign an agreement stating that you are willing to
offer that much needed support to the Model Islamic School
Nation of Character Program, using the Khalifah Method, in
your classroom and in your interaction with students outside
the classroom.
The following is what we ask
you to agree to do in support of the Model Nation of
Character model school plan:
1. Learn as much as you can
about the Khalifah Method being implemented at the Model School, and the important
educational, social, and religious goals we are working to
achieve for your students.
2.
Read the parenting skills book provided by the Model School, “Membentuk Keperibadian
Cemerlang: Panduan Untuk Ibu Bapa”, “Raising Children of
Excellent Character: A Manual for Parents”.
3. Attend “Khalifah Method”
training sessions offered periodically throughout the year
by Khalifah Staff.
4. Be supportive in your
classroom of your students efforts to adhere to the methods
and goals of the Nation of Character model school
program.
5.
Try, to the best of your ability, to communicate and
interact with your students according to the Khalifah Method
used in the Nation of Character model school program.
At a minimum this would mean:
a. Find various ways, at
least twice during each class period, to remind your
students that they are Khalifah of Allah.
b. Take the opportunity, at
least five times during each class period, to give positive
attention (reward) in various ways to your students for any
good things they do or good characteristics they show.
c.
Set firm, reasonable rules for your students, make sure the
students understand those rules, and enforce those rules
consistently with ‘kind’ discipline (this means without
harshness).
Note:
More detailed information and suggestions on how to
successfully implement these three simple procedures, which
are an important part of the Khalifah Method, will be
provided early in the school year.
I
agree to support the Model Islamic School Nation of Character
program with my students as stated in the behavioural
contract above.
