From the Islamic point of view spiritual approach to
psychotherapy is an aspect of behaviour modification
that is based on the relationship between man and his
Creator (Allah) which entails an operational paradigm in
which faith (Iman) in Allah is the focal point.
Iman is both a cognitive and ethical constructs that
gather all data and facts in the perspective which is
proper to and requisite for a true understanding of the
therapeutic processes. It is the consciousness of
Allah's existence and the conviction in service (Iman)
that serve as the beginning of therapy to remove mental
sickness (maradhun) in man. This is rightly

essentially concerned with the study of the overall
processes of human development from conception to old
age. The term "process of development" has been used to
refer to the stages, aspects, patterns, principles,
factors, and agents involved in human development.
In psychology, the term "development" has a wide range
of meaning. It means the overall qualitative and
quantitative changes that accompany human growth and
maturation. In this regard, these two terms (growth and
maturation) have also been subsumed under the general
