That is why you need sunglasses - to help you
see clearly, comfortably and protected in bright sunlight - to enable you
to fully enjoy the good times outdoors.
Lens SelectionHow To Choose A Pair of Sunglasses For Comfort and Protection
A pair of sunglasses that provides protection and day-long comfort will eliminate glare, block ultraviolet rays and reduce infrared rays. Just like prescription glasses, it should be free from any defects like wavy surface and the two lenses shall be consistent in colours and density.
Selection on the type of lenses is a matter of preference and the usage. There are basically five types of sunglasses lenses:
Constant Density, Photochromic, Mirror, Gradient, and Polarizing.
Constant Density Lenses are fixed in colour and the amount of light they transmit. They provide excellent glare protection. Recommended for outdoor occupation, driving, skiing, beach, sailing/boating, fishing, flying, cycling and general wear.Photochromic Lenses are light sensitive glass that automatically adjust density for the sun's brightness, in full sunlight they darken to become sunglasses, when removed they fade to light tint. Recommended for people who wear their sunglasses in a variety of light conditions eg. action sports like skiing, tennis and sailing.
Mirror Lenses have metallic coating on the lens that creates the mirror look, and by reflecting some of the light adds an extra buffer against glare. Recommended for driving, sailing, beach, fishing, flying, downhill skiing and cycling.
As for Gradient Lenses, the colour gradually becomes darker from the bottom to the top of the lenses, often lightly tinted and used for fashion or fun glasses. Recently, gradient lenses have been combined with photochromic lenses to create glasses that are attractive in their light stage but change to sunglasses in the sun. Excellent choice for fashion conscious people who have an active outdoor life ic fashion wear, streetwear, beach, picnics, outdoor parties, cycling, boating.
Polarizing Lenses have polarizing material sandwiched between two pieces of dark plastic, pressed to curve - hence eliminate glare reflected from flat surfaces at a certain angle. Suitable for fishing, driving, sailing, beach and cycling.
