Yoga uses slow, concentrated movements designed to promote balance in both mind and body.


 
 
 

How it works:

Yoga means 'unity' or 'joining together', and combines gentle posture-pulling with breathing exercises. The aim is to promote concentration and balance, and basically boost control of your mind and body.
 
 

 
 
 

Good for what?

People enjoy yoga for many different reasons, not least as a means of helping them relax. The breathing exercises can also be used to help relieve asthma, while the stretching exercises can strengthen back muscles and improve posture.
 

So what's the choice?

There are a number of different kinds of yoga, focusing on various approaches to breathing, posture and body movement. In general classes cater for all levels of experience, and you'll find details at your local health centre.
